POTOMAC CLASSICAL YOUTH BALLET COMPANY
ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS
On Saturday, September 13, 2008, the Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company
will hold auditions for positions in both the full Company and also for Company
II for the 2008– 2009 season. PCYBC, a non-profit, pre-professional
ballet company, will be auditioning qualified area ballet students between
13 and 18 years of age for full company members. Potomac Classical Youth Ballet
Company offers serious ballet dancers a place to grow artistically in a nurturing
environment. Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company offers its dancers opportunities
to study with master ballet teachers and choreographers and to have more performance
opportunities. Positions are open for both male and female dancers. Auditions
will be held at The City Ballet School, in the Elizabeth Hager Center located
at 14 N. Potomac Street in downtown Hagerstown, Maryland.
Company I - 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Company II - 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Audition fee is $10
Qualified ballet students wishing to audition for the company do not have to be students of The City Ballet School. Company I members and apprentices and Company II members have class every Saturday morning from 10:30 AM – 12:00 noon. From October through December, dancers will have additional rehearsals for “Nutcracker”. After the Christmas break, Saturday morning classes resume with Saturday afternoons spent in preparation for the Spring Performance. A full schedule will be provided to those accepted into the Company I and Company II.
The Company I is for dancers ages 13-18. Dancers eligible for Company I must be at least 13 years old by Dec. 31, 2008 and have at least 2 years of Pointe work.
Company II is for dancers ages 12-18, who may not have had quite as much training or experience as dancers in the Company I. Company II serves as the training ground for the Full Company. Dancers eligible for Company II must be at least 12 years old by Dec. 31, 2008 and have at least 1 year of Pointe work.
Dancers selected as members for the Company Iand Company II are required to perform in PCYBC’s annual Nutcracker production in December.
A membership fee is assessed each dancer selected. This fee covers only a small part of the expenses involved in the operation of the Company.

The Company held its premier performance in the spring of 1997. For many seasons, PCYBC performed the “Nutcracker” at the Maryland Theatre in December with Russian soloists from the International Ballet Theater and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. The Company has also welcomed guest artists from the Houston Ballet, The James Sewell Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and The Washington Ballet. A Spring Performance for PCYBC offers the dancers in the company an opportunity to perform original works from classical ballets as well as newly commissioned works from guest choreographers.
The resident home of PCYBC is The City Ballet School, located at 14 N. Potomac Street in the Elizabeth Hager Center in downtown Hagerstown. Lauran Clowser is Artistic Director, Becci Kimm serves as Ballet Mistress, and Danielle Horochowski is the Assistant Ballet Mistress/
